A Swedish Sojourn: From Stockholm to the Arctic Circle
Begin your Swedish experience with a lovely stroll through the cobblestone streets of the capital’s oldest quarter, Gamla Stan, paying a visit to the best of the city’s museums and shops featuring Swedish design. Whisked north to Kiruna in the Arctic Circle, three fantastical hotels await: the ICEHOTEL with its hand-sculpted rooms, the floating Arctic Bath and the Tree Hotel, suspended from the trees. Meet a real Sami family, spot the wilderness’ game and embark on a husky safari across ice-covered lakes. Day by Day Highlights
Day 1 Arrival in Stockholm
Welcome to the enchanting Stockholm! Straddling across fourteen islands on the banks of the Baltic Sea, Stockholm is the largest Scandinavian city and it is bustling with a treasure trove of history, culture and architecture. After transferring from the airport to your hotel, the rest of the day is free at leisure for you to explore.
Day 2 Stockholm
Enjoy a tour of the Old Town, also known as Gamla Stan. Stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets dotted with historic buildings from the 16thcentury. Feel the awe as you visit the Royal Palace, which was first built in 1754 and remains in excellent condition. You will visit the Great Square where you will find the old Stock Exchange, the famous Nobel Museum and the Swedish Academy. And of course, no walk through Gamla Stan would be complete without visiting Stockholm’s mother church, the Church of St. Nicholas.
Day 3 Stockholm / Ice Hotel
This morning is free at leisure. If you love museums, you may want to visit Fotografiska Museum or Moderna Museum. Dating from the1906 and built in Art Nouveau style, Fotografiska Museum showcases contemporary photography works; whereas the Moderna Museum features masterpieces of modern and contemporary arts.
Alternatively, you may wish to learn more about Sweden’s furniture and interior design shops. In Sweden, much of its design products focus on sustainability. Some shops you can consider visiting are Svenskt Tenn Shop, Carl Malmsten, Designtorget and Nordiska Galleriet.
Thereafter, let us whisk you to the airport for your flight to Kiruna at the Arctic Circle. During your stay in Kiruna, you will be accommodated at ICEHOTEL, hand-sculpted from the massive ice blocks harvested from the meandering Torne River. We have accommodated you in a warm room, but optional upgrade is available if you would like to stay in one of the ice rooms!
Day 4 Ice Hotel
This morning, get acquainted with the adorable resident dogs as you embark on a husky safari through the trails of frozen woods.Thereafter, return to the hotel to enjoy the hotel facilities and admire the sculptures. In the evening, embark on a snowmobile adventure across the white hilly landscapes and ice-covered lakes. If the Lady Luck is on your side, we might even spot the Northern Lights!
Day 5 Ice Hotel / Flakaberg /Arctic Bath
Today, we will transfer you by coach to Arctic Bath. Along the way, you will enjoy a Sami experience with Lars Eriksson. Lars’ family has lived in the remote Flakaberg region as a Sami for seven generations. Get close to Lars’ reindeers as you listen to insightful stories about his native lifestyle and culture.
Day 6 Arctic Bath
Staying at the Arctic Bath is its own experience! Together with its spa and wellness facility, this hotel offers fantastic cuisine as well as activities such as bear spotting, moose safari, salmon and trout fishing or horse riding. In winter time specifically, it also offers activities such as the Northern Lights spotting, snowshoeing, husky safari, snowmobile and more.
Day 7 Arctic Bath / Tree Hotel
Let us take you into the nature for an overnight stay in the magnificent Tree Hotel, an eco-friendly hotel masterfully blending nature with comfortable modern design. Meet with the owners of the hotel for a tour of this unique property.
Day 8 Tree Hotel / Luleå
Enjoy free time to soak in the atmosphere of the Tree Hotel before transferring to your hotel in Luleå Area.
Day 9 Luleå
Enjoy a half-day visit to the Gammelstad Church Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the best preserved example of the town which was once widespread throughout northern Scandinavia. This evening, you will enjoy a three-course dinner on the frozen sea.
Day 10 Departure from Luleå
Today is free time at leisure before transferring to the airport for your flight home.
